I’ve been catching up on the 2nd season episodes of The Walking Dead that I recorded but haven’t watch since the season premiere back in October. I almost deleted them all without watching them but I’m glad I didn’t. The writers have structured the story nicely and gotten a lot of mileage out of the little girl disappearing in the first episode. It certainly holds my interest, unlike Terra Nova (crap), Person of Interest (some interesting character choices), and Fringe (I care less and less about Peter, Olivia, and Walter each passing episode), all of which I started watching with anticipation. (Though to be totally honest, I did write the previous post while watching.)
The Walking Dead almost reminds me of Lost in some ways with the zombie pandemic as a framing story of individuals in extreme situations. It’s even got flashbacks (though not as many as Lost). And some of the character choices are particularly dramatic and tortured (Shane’s betrayal of Otis reminds me of Michael shooting Libby and Ana Lucia to save Walt).
I sure hope that little girl is still alive, though I doubt it. I’ll keep watching, especially to see why Hershel’s keeping a corral of zombies in the barn (relatives and kin? food supply? petting zoo?)
I’m also going to let a couple more episodes record in the DVR queue before I continue watching. After my one week, four season marathon of Lost several years ago, I find that I really that I prefer watching a TV series when I can view a couple episodes at a time (something Netflix streaming indulges me in).
Update – 11/27/11 – Well they finally killed all the zombies in the barn against Hershel’s wishes. The last one stumbling from the barn turned out to be Sophia, the little girl lost in Episode One. Closure, shock, and devastation for all. Now we have to wait until February to see our group’s continuing adventures in the zombie apocalypse.
